Sacramento is joining Toronto in celebrating the pending arrival of a new tiki establishment. Rum Rok is coming to Sacramento’s midtown, hopefully by the end of the year. It will occupy roughly 2,500 square feet of the 8,750-square-foot building at 15th and H streets. The larger building has been the site of a number of different nightclubs in recent history; the search is still on to figure out what the rest of the large building will be used for, likely retail.
Rum Rok’s owner, Bob Simpson, also operates several other nightlife spots in Sacramento, including the nearby Republic, Vanguard and Pour House, but this is his first foray into tiki. He says the focus will be on craft cocktails, with lots of rum and fruit juice. Beyond that, not many details are yet available, particularly about the decor. Sacramento has a large number of tikiphiles, and the city has been long overdue for a good gathering spot for them—I hope this is it!
