Want to be a force for good in the world of Polynesian Pop? There is an opening for a bartender at the historic Tonga Room in San Francisco’s Fairmont Hotel. The bar program at the Tonga Room has been shifting, changing… for the better. The drink menu was updated a while back, and now has more of a classic tiki bent. There are also some newer bartenders there who are passionate about making great drinks, with quality ingredients. Personally, I would love to see this spot filled by someone who will increase the count of bartenders there who bring some love for quality Tiki to the job.

This isn’t the place for a know-it-all — in a big, longtime hotel setup like this, there’s a lot of institutional operating knowledge you have to be willing to work with — but it is an opportunity to create some very special drinks and moments for visitors from all over the world, in a beautiful, one-of-a-kind environment. This full time position pays $22/hour + tips, and there are excellent health care benefits to boot.

If this new opportunity is perking your ears up, here’s the Fairmont Careers job listing with more details. The job listing says they’re looking for a “proven master mixologist” but that’s not a true requirement; if you’re willing to learn they will teach you what you need to know. This position will likely be more behind-the-scenes bartending, especially at first. I can also connect you with one of the great bartenders who works at the Tonga Room, he would be happy to answer your questions.
